Transportation Information
  • Bus service is provided within Sussex County. STHS has no regular route bus stops outside of the County.
  • Bus stops are located within 1/2 mile of home address as measured on State maintained roadways. They are located at the entrances of developments, and there is one pick-up and one drop-off per student.
  • All address, phone and bus changes are made through the Student Services Office.

INCOMING FRESHMEN and ALL RETURNING STUDENTS:

  • Students who are issued a parking pass are not eligible to ride a school bus to/from school, per Delaware Code, Title 14 §2909 and §4115.
  • Busing is assigned in relation to the physical address of each student’s primary guardian and must be within Sussex County.
  • Students may be required to walk up to 1/2 mile (not including private developments or roads) to an assigned stop.
  • Buses do not travel inside private developments or where a “turn-around,” if necessary, is impracticable.
  • Busing information is mailed home with student schedules typically the first week of August. Your child’s driver will call you with the pick-up location and approximate time.

ADDRESS CHANGES

  • All address changes must be processed by the Student Services office.
  • Please use the following form to update your child’s transportation information as needed (change of home address, etc.). This form, which may also be found in the high school and Transportation Offices, must be completed and submitted prior to making any new transportation arrangements.
  • Please ensure that you submit your request at least 3 business days prior to the desired date of change, as the updated busing information will not be available until the day after the address change is processed by Student Services.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Busing information is mailed home with student schedules typically the first or second week of August.  Your child's driver will call you with the exact pick-up location and approximate time the week before school starts.
  • Students are to be at their assigned stop 10 minutes prior to the stated time.
  • Buses do not wait for students to come out of the house, walk down the road, etc., as they have many more students to pick up and must stay on-schedule.

  • Per State regulations, students may be required to walk up to 1/2 mile (not including private developments/roads) to an assigned stop.
  • Students will be picked up at the entrance to private developments.
    • Buses do not travel inside private developments (non-State maintained roads)
  • Buses cannot travel down roads where a "turn-around," if necessary, is impracticable/physically limited.

  • Busing is assigned in relation to the physical address of each student's primary guardian and must be within Sussex County.
  • State regulations do not provide for multiple addresses/stops for a single child.

  • All student information changes/corrections are entered by Student Services.
  • Please ensure that you submit your request at least 3 business days prior to the desired date of change, as the updated busing information will not be available until the day after the address change is processed by Student Services and must be coordinated with the bus contactor/driver before they contact you with the new bus/stop information.

  • Please contact the Dean of Students, documenting specific information/details of your concern.
  • The Dean of Students handles all disciplinary issues.

  • Activity stop info is posted on the transportation office website.
  • Summer schedule is posted on both the athletic and transportation website.
  • Any changes will be announced/disseminated by coaches and drivers and posted online.

  • Bus pass requests must be in writing from the legal parent/guardian.
  • Bus passes are to be submitted in the clear box outside of the Transportation Office before the first class of the day and are processed by the Attendance Officer.
  • Requests must include student’s name, parent name, parent phone number, and parent signature, as well as the student’s name with whom they are riding and that student’s bus number, parent name, and parent phone number.
  • Bus passes are only to existing stops with currently riding/assigned students.

  • Yes.  Buses begin running for the first day of “Freshman Orientation” for freshmen only (times will be slightly different than during the rest of the school year; Driver will have the stop times), then begin their full/regular runs on the first day of school for all students.

  • No.  It is the student’s responsibility to be waiting for the bus before it arrives.  Buses will not wait for a student that is not at the stop and visible.  (Buses do not wait for students to come out of the house, walk down the road, etc.)
  • If a student misses the bus, it is the family’s responsibility to find a way to get the student to school.
