Sussex Technical High School has named its staff members of the month for the first half of the academic year, recognizing outstanding effort and excellence. The staff members are:

  • Tony Varrato, English teacher, September staff member of the month. Varrato, a veteran teacher at Sussex Tech and young adult author, was recognized for his work mentoring colleagues and assisting with parental concerns. 
  • Michael Weyrauch, social studies teacher, October staff member of the month. Weyrauch, a new teacher this year, was honored for volunteering to facilitate trainings with new software and sharing resources with other teachers. Weyrauch has taught in the Caesar Rodney School District and in Florida, and recently completed his master’s degree in educational technology.
  • Susan Sutton, reading specialist, November staff member of the month. Sutton was recognized for her work creating a new reading program and assisting other teachers by filling in during absences. Sutton has worked for 13 years as a reading specialist, substitute teacher, and private tutor in New York.
  • Deborah Long, social studies teacher, December staff member of the month. Long was recognized for leading the world history learning community, collaborating with other social studies teachers, demonstrating best practices in the classroom, serving on the high school equity team, and making world history an inquiry-based subject with a recent “forensic CSI” lesson on the Renaissance.
