PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Dr. Matthew B. Donovan, Principal of Sussex Technical High School (Georgetown, DE), announced a two-week summer program, entitled “The 2022 Raven Academy Exploratory Program” to introduce rising 7th and 8th grade students in Sussex County to the vocational offerings of Sussex Technical High School.

Dr. Donovan stated, “Vocational-technical education programming provides students with practical learning opportunities and hands-on experiences to prepare graduates for a career or post-secondary opportunity.”

Mr. Ed Stough, carpentry teacher at Sussex Tech, commented, “We will give students an introduction to a variety of vocational areas to help them determine their area of interest going forward.”

Four two-day sessions held the last two weeks of June, 2022 will include the exploration of the following vocational technical areas:  Automotive Technologies; Business, Finance and Marketing; Carpentry and Construction Management; Collision Repair Technologies; Cosmetology; Dental Services; Digital Publishing and Design; Early Care and Education; HVAC-R Engineering; Landscape and Environmental; Legal Support Services and Criminal Justice; Media Broadcasting; and Welding and Fabrication.

Seating is limited to 15 students per vocational area per session on a first come, first served basis, and transportation will be provided to local Sussex County communities.  There is no charge for the exploratory sessions, which will include breakfast and lunch.

Four two-day sessions

Week One: June 21 – 24
Session A (Tuesday, Wednesday), Session B (Thursday, Friday)

Week Two: June 27 – 30
Session C (Monday, Tuesday), Session D (Wednesday, Thursday)

Typical Daily Schedule

  • Students arrive at 8:20 each day Breakfast served
    Exploratory classes (3 hours, 45 minutes)
  • Seating is limited to 15 students per vocational area (first
    come, first served)
  • Students selecting welding will need jeans and boots
  • Transportation provided to Sussex County local communities
