James H. Groves Adult High School Graduation Ceremony Held

On Monday, June 6, 2022 48 graduates walked across the stage during Sussex County Vocational Technical School District’s James H. Groves Adult High School program’s 58th Annual Commencement. Dr. Kevin Carson, Superintendent of the Sussex County Vocational Technical School District, and Mrs. Maureen Whelan, Director of Adult and Prison Education for the State of Delaware, offered their congratulatory remarks. The commencement address was delivered by Senator Brian Pettyjohn who encouraged graduates, and everyone in attendance, to never stop learning.

Students speakers included Rebecka Steiner, Juan Izara, Yamilett Perez-Perez and Terry Williams. Each shared their personal journey on how they became a student at Groves, their journey during Groves’ classes and their plans for the future. Based on their achievements during their Groves’ classes, nine graduates received scholarships toward their post secondary education or training. Scholarship winners included Rebecka Steiner, Jennifer Ullman, Michaella Allen, Glende Navarrette, Jessica Medina, Yamilett Perez-Perez, Lyndee Merryman, Brayan Ramirez Chavez and Jordan Walker.
