Sussex Tech’s Dr. Holly Langley named Delaware’s 2022 Assistant Principal of the Year

Dr. Kevin Carson, Superintendent of the Sussex County Vocational Technical School District, has announced Holly Langley, Ed. D., has been named Delaware’s 2022 Assistant Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

Dr. Matt Donovan, Principal of Sussex Technical High School said “Dr. Langley’s leadership is crucial to the success of Sussex Tech. The assistant principalship has evolved into an essential element of a collaborative leadership team focused on the academic success of each student in our school. We are fortunate to have Dr. Langley on our team!”

Dr. Langley obtained her bachelor’s degree from Elon University, and her master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Delaware. After having spent more than 18 years teaching social studies at the high school level, she became an assistant principal — she is now in her fourth year of assistant principalship at Sussex Technical High School.

Besides serving as a mentor for new teachers in various professional development clusters, Dr. Langley also continues as an adjunct professor at Wilmington University in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department.

Outside the classroom, Dr. Langley enjoys working out, competing in triathlons, running races, yoga, and CrossFit. “I also like to read, drive my jeep on the beach and travel,” she said. “But what I enjoy most in life – outside of school – is spending time with my husband Jason.”

The NASSP National Assistant Principal of the Year program annually recognizes the accomplishments of assistant principals—representing 50 states, Washington, D.C., the U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity, and the U.S. Department of State Office of Overseas Schools.

As the Delaware winner, Dr. Langley will be considered for the National Assistant Principal of the Year award (presented by the NASSP), which will be selected in February.
